Years ago, I started working with and training some older teenage boys on Saturdays on our small ranch.
A big problem I notice in America with our youth today is so many have never worked or been exposed to it. Oh yes, they know how to use cell phones, watch videos, play some little computer games or watch the tube.
I would pick those boys up at 7:30 a.m. sharp. If they were not ready, I left them. I paid a good hourly wage, but if they talked on their cell phone while we were working, they were docked an hour. Yes, we took lots of breaks, had nice cool water and discussed the jobs we were doing and good work habits.
They had to have proper dress for working outdoors and in the sun. Several things I observed and tried to teach them:
1. Be rested and prepared for work the next day.
2. Try to do a good job, impress your boss.
3. Do not talk on your phone during work.
4. Get a social security card.
5. Get a driver’s license and do not get tickets.
6. Be properly and modestly dressed.
7. No drugs ever, and I do not advocate alcohol.
8. Show respect for others and especially those you work for.
These are a few little suggestions. We have many, many good youths in America; they have just not been given the opportunity.
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
2 Timothy 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
Matthew 25:21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’
See you in Church next Sunday.
