Graduates and Unmanned Rockets

The big question is which way will they go?

My father helped develop the unmanned rockets. The rocket propulsion systems worked fine, but they were having a lot of trouble with the guidance systems.

They would carry them up to high altitude under the wing of a large airplane and release them. They would go out of control and several times almost crash into the airplane that carried them aloft.

My father’s experiences reminded me of something in the Bible.

Every human being is born with a guidance system, spirit, but it is flawed and is not perfect. (Romans 3:23 ... for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,...)

It will misguide us and lead us astray in our relationship to God. (Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.)

But God does not want us to go astray and end up in destruction, so He made a way for us to receive a new guidance system, ( Romans 5:8 ... but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.; Psalm 25:5 Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.; Psalm 143:10 Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!) The way we receive it is by acknowledging to God that we have a flawed system and asking for Him to forgive us and help us, (Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.)

That new guidance is made available through and by Jesus Christ, (1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,...; Titus 3:5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,...)

We must be willing to call upon Him and trust Him, and when we do, we get a new guidance system or spirit, (John 1:12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,...; Psalm 73:24 You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory.; Revelation 7:17 “...For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”) We need to pray for all those graduating and hope they do not get on the wrong path.

See you in Church next Sunday.
