The Richland Springs Report

I’m not sure what is wearing me out the most. The wind is exhausting, old age is wearying, school activities are frenetic, and the lack of rain is crushing. The lack of rain is the winner. It’s as if everything and everyone aches for the renewal of rain. The trees are in full bud, but they need rain to prosper. It’s painful to see grass struggling to green and grow. God will send us some rain for the land’s sake if not for ours. I imagine they feel like I do when I can’t sing songs to the Lord. My soul withers and grieves. So, let’s pray and sing for a ground soaking rain.

This week, UIL will be held for our district. Richland Springs is the host due to an unexpected issue at the original host school. Ladies of the community have been asked to provide food for the hospitality room; teachers will provide desserts and snacks.

Wednesday, many students will be taking the ACT test, and there are multiple events on Thursday and Friday. When the kids come back, it will be two weeks away from our yearly round of STAAR tests.

Congratulations to Lane Ward, singles champion, and Eli Hutchins and Calyn Kubin for their third-place win in Zephyr.

Congratulations to Calyn Kubin for her All-Region 4 Offensive Player nomination and Flora Appleton for her nomination as Region 4 MVP for this basketball season. Coach Aviles has two golf meets, March 25th and March 31st. Tennis has a meet on March 28th. Coach Watkins and Coach Chandler have track meets on March 25th, junior high; and March 27, high school. Coach Chandler and the softball girls have a game on March 25th against Menard. Congratulations to the track team on their successes at the Blanket meet.

There will be a separate notice from the school, but congratulations to the One Act Play students who presented the play Tumbleweed. This play was written and directed by Mrs. Sarah Locker.

The meal was outstanding as well. The Community meal, hosted by the Richland Preservation Society, was postponed until April 6th to accommodate the play. This community works together. That’s part of the charm of this little community.

A short update on our local candidate for U.S. Senate, Rennie Mann. Rennie attended a townhall meeting in Winnie, Texas. He will be heading to Kingsland on Monday for another meet and greet. We are hoping other voters in our region will recognize a firstrate honest candidate.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week, and that we get a good rain to settle the dust. I pray that we can have peace around the world and in our own country. There are forces working to keep us in turmoil. Life is tough enough without troublemakers and liars making life tougher. My sisters in Canada are being told the U.S. is invading Canada and Greenland. It’s hard to fight rumors and falsehoods. Please pray for truth and trust. We send our condolences to Vera Ralson who lost her sister last week.

Blessings to all of you out there.
