Do we ever sing praises or give thanks?

Do we ever sing praises or give thanks?

Recently, we had a women’s group of 20 singing in our Sunday night service. They go around to churches and other places singing wonderful Christian songs.

Their singing brought back memories of my grandmother and mother singing around the house. I remember especially my grandmother singing when she was washing dishes, cleaning the house or working in her garden. Times were hard for her with the drought going on and other problems. She would be singing beautiful songs glorifying the Lord.

I didn’t understand it then because I did not know Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior. But I sure do now, and I understand. I know she and many others prayed many a prayer for me, and God being a merciful, loving God heard those prayers and led me to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Bible has a lot to say about singing and praising God.

It pleases God when we sing praises to Him.

Judges 5:3 Hear, O kings; give ear, O princes; to the Lord I will sing; I will make melody to the Lord, the God of Israel.

2 Samuel 22:47-50 The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock, and exalted be my God, the rock of my salvation, 48 the God who gave me vengeance and brought down peoples under me, 49 who brought me out from my enemies; you exalted me above those who rose against me; you delivered me from men of violence. 50 For this I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations, and sing praises to your name.).

We can sing in the shower, in our car or old pickup, outside, inside, anywhere any time but it is good to sing praises to God.

We may use instruments or not, and it is especially important is to sing songs of praise and thanksgiving in church.

Psalm 7:17 I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High. Psalm 13:6 I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me. Psalm 32:2-7 Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. 3 For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. 4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up[a] as by the heat of summer. Selah 5 I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah 6 Therefore let everyone who is godly offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found; surely in the rush of great waters, they shall not reach him 7 You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah Hebrews 2:12 “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.”

A sad heart or an ungrateful or an unsaved heart cannot sing praises to the Most High God.

See you in Church next Sunday.
