The San Saba County Friends of Animals (SSCFOA) turned exercise into pure joy at their recent Puppy Yoga fundraisers, held on February 1st and 8th. The unique events brought in $1,700 to support the organization's mission of caring for local rescue puppies.
The room was filled with laughter as participants tried to hold their poses while playful puppies scampered around them. The sessions, led by yoga instructor Daneen Scott, took place in a wonderful space generously donated by Albert and Kay Stowell.
The funds couldn't have come at a better time. SSCFOA recently took in seven puppies from Richland Springs, and the cost of caring for each young rescue is substantial. "It costs between $700 and $800 to provide complete care for a single puppy from four weeks of age until they're ready for spaying or neutering," explained Regina Baker a SSCFOA representative.
The organization offers an innovative foster-to-adopt program for puppies under six months old, allowing families to take their new companions home while SSCFOA continues covering medical expenses until the puppies reach six months – the age recommended by local veterinarians for spaying and neutering. The $100 adoption fee is collected after all medical care is complete.
"We're grateful to everyone who made this event possible," said the organization's spokesperson. "From Daneen Scott donating her time to teach, Tracy Farley who helped keep the puppies in line, and all of the dedicated SSCFOA Volunteers who helped prepare and run the event." Soggy Dog Salon also donated their time to trim our 11 puppies' nails.
Given the overwhelming success, SSCFOA plans to host more puppy yoga sessions in the future.
