Joe Dennis Oliver, age 83 of Sweetwater, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025.
Family visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, January 29, at McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 30, at Bethel Assembly in Sweetwater, Texas, with Pastor Carter Edmondson officiating. Military Honors Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, Texas.
Joe was born February 16, 1941, in San Saba, Texas, to Ernest Lee and Letha May Oliver. He graduated from San Saba High School in 1960. Joe earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice at Odessa College. He served in the United States Air Force as Staff Sargeant and retired from the oilfield chemical business. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of the Sons of Republic of Texas, William B Travis Chapter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Lee and Letha May Oliver; one grandson, Nicholas Burton; and one great-grandson, Andrew Lillywhite.
Mr. Oliver is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen Ruth Oliver of Sweetwater; Sheila Burton and husband Brian of Beaumont; Gregg Oliver and wife Diana of Colorado City; Tom Oliver and wife Shelia of Sweetwater; Kathleen Poe and husband Jack of Sweetwater; one brother, Leonard Oliver and wife Mary Ann of San Antonio; two sisters: Anna Napolez and husband Jesse of Llano, DiAnne Scott and husband Dale of Cherokee; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers: Kevin Oliver, Clayton Oliver, Chris Oliver, Bryson Oliver, JP Poe, and Michael Lawrence. Honorary Pallbearers: Brandon Whitley, Curry Kunkel, Weston Bond, Addison Crain, JD Garrett, and Ty Crain.
