No, they are not in headline news or in who’s who’s.
My car was overheating, and I stopped at a radiator repair shop. But the owner told me they were too busy and to come back another time.
I noticed an elderly African American man taking the radiator out of a car nearby. He said if I could take it out and leave it, it would be ready tomorrow.
About that time the owner came over and chewed the elderly man out. I have never heard anyone talk to another person that way.
The next day, I went over and paid the owner. The elderly man helped me install the radiator after hours. I told him I was studying the Bible at a Bible college, and he said he would like to do that. He said he couldn’t read but was the pastor of a small church.
John 15:16-20 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another.
“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
1 Corinthians 1:26-31 For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
I asked him how he knew what to preach. He said, “I get my granddaughter to read a certain passage of scripture to me from the Bible, and I remember it. And that is what I preach about.”
There will come a day when they are acknowledged and rewarded. It will be when they stand before the Lord Jesus in Heaven and He says, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
Matthew 25:21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’
Luke 6:23 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.
Revelation 22:12 Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done.
I hope to see that elderly man someday in heaven.
See you in Church next Sunday.
