Simple Truths

Pastor Welton Watson, Central Baptist Church

Proverbs 14:34 “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” As you are reading this article, the election is over, but I’m sure the results and all the turmoil, fighting and squabbling will be in overdrive and will continue into the distant future.

Let me start this article by issuing a disclaimer. The statements that you read here are mine, and may not be supported by the editors and, or advertisers of this paper I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I do fear that there will be serious issues, no matter which party and candidate wins. A line has been drawn between the liberal and the conservative, and I fear that the tear in America’s fabric can never be mended. In this article, I am declaring where I stand, and have stood for the past 45 years, and the people in the Church I pastor believe the same thing.

Our personal and biblical conviction is that Abortion is murder of the innocent unborn. In Proverbs 6:16-19 God gives seven things that he hates, and the

third one in verse 17, is, “hands that shed innocent blood.” There is no blood more innocent than that of an unborn defenseless little baby, and God says he hates those bloody hands. It is always being debated as to when life begins. The simple answer is: at conception. Let me explain it like this: Every child that has ever been born, or ever will be born was first conceived. It is obvious that without conception, there is no life. Therefore common sense tells us that every component of life is imparted at the moment of conception: gender, hair color, eye color, temperament, personality, blood type, etc, etc, etc. No conception, no life, plain and simple.

Now I know that there are those who will not be convinced because their minds are set against it, and no amount of truth will convince them, but it doesn’t change the simple truth.

Next, we firmly believe that gender is appointed by God at conception. “Male and female created he them.” We don’t, or didn’t get to choose what gender we are. That cannot be changed, no matter how many surgeries or, how many hormone drugs taken. When we stand before God, we will be judged for who he created us, and for what we have done with his Son, Jesus Christ, and how we have lived the life that he gave us.

Finally for this article, certainly not all our conservative convictions, we believe that marriage is between one man and one woman (one male and one female), and that homosexuality in all its forms is Abomination to God and can only be cured by the New Birth. John 3:7 “Ye must be born again.” This same admonition goes for “all that have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” ( Romans 3:23) Jesus said in Luke 5:31 “They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
