Dillos defeat Harper, clinch playoff spot

The Armadillos picked up their sixth win of the season and a critical third win in district 14-2A while securing a playoff position for the first time since 2021. With two games left in the regular season, San Saba now sits atop the district leaderboard with Mason at 3-0, followed by Holland at 2-1, Thorndale at 1-2 and Harper and Johnson City sitting at 0-3. A win over Holland next week will guarantee the Dillos at least a 2 seat in the playoffs and sets up a season-ending showdown for the district championship against their old rivals, the Mason Punchers. This week, San Saba will travel to Holland and play the Hornets for the first time ever; kickoff is set for 7:00.

Offensive stats

San Saba churned out 394 yards on 41 plays (9.6 avg), 317 of those yards coming on the ground. The Dillo offense attempted just eight passes but made the best of it as two receptions went for touchdowns. San Saba’s offense has slowly progressed upwards in the last weeks as they have scored 265 points on the year (33.1 AVG).

Offensive leaders

Tharp rushed for 214 yards on 11 carries (19.4 avg) and three scores while completing four passes to Preston Gray for 63 yards, two of those receptions resulting in a touchdown. Everett rushed for 29 yards on seven carries and a score, while Alex Aguirre carried the ball seven times for 54 yards, followed by Alex Aguirre with six carries for 15 yards. Glover turned quarterback for one play and connected with Danny English on a 14-yard pass.

The Dillo defense once again dominated the night as they forced 3 interceptions, 1 being returned for a touchdown, 4 sacks and 19 tackles for loss. After 8 games the defense has caused 16 turnovers (10 int, 6 fumbles) and returned 2 interceptions for touchdowns while only allowing 138 total points scored (17.25 avg)
