Betty Conner Terry, age 74 of Athens, Texas, passed away on October 7, 2024. She was born on January 10, 1950, in San Saba, Texas.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life of 50 years, Darel Wayne Terry; mother, Lela Lee Conner; and brother, Larry “Bubba” Conner. Betty graduated from San Saba High School in 1968 and then from Tarleton State College in 1972 with a Bachelor's in education. She received her Master’s in Education from Stephen F. Austin. After college, she went on to teach 1st grade at Kerens ISD, from where she eventually retired. Although Betty fought a hard fight for many years with MS, she always had a smile on her face and never a complaint. She loved Texas A&M football and the Texas Rangers and always made sure she sent us the entire season schedule as soon as they came out.
In her younger years, she was a very successful cowgirl who won many awards raising and showing Short Horn cattle. She loved to tell stories of her growing up in her hometown of San Saba, Texas. Betty did a lot of things in her life and built many strong relationships, but the strongest bond she shared was with her family. Her only grandson, Case Wayne O’Brien, was the light of her life, and he loved his MiMi greatly!
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Jody O’Brien, and her grandchildren, Case Wayne O’Brien and Irelynn O’Brien.
The family would like to thank the staff at Southplace Nursing home for taking care of her and going above and beyond for her. She made many great friends there over the years.
Pallbearers were Jody O’Brien, Larry O’Brien, David Downey, Alan Webster, and Scott Stephens. Funeral services were Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
