Dillos crush the Cougars

San Saba (3-1) traveled to Waco last Friday and cruised to an easy victory over the Waco Reicher Cougars (0-4) 60-0. The opponent gave little competition to the Dillos on either side of the ball as San Saba scored on eight consecutive drives and did not allow the cougars any positive yards on offense while forcing nine consecutive punts. There is no “mercy rule “in 11-man football, but a running clock in the 2nd half limited the Armadillos against the private school that just could not match up in any phase of the game. Six different players scored for the Dillos while the defense caused two turnovers and a safety.

San Saba will now look to finish their pre-district schedule on a positive note as they will take on a strong Hamilton Bulldog team, kickoff is set for 7 o’clock at Rogan Field.

Offensive leaders – It was an “Oprah Giveaway” kind of night for the Dillos as virtually every player that touched the ball found his way into the endzone. Luke Tharp rushed for 126 yards on six carries and a score, and was 4 of 5 passing with one TD to Preston Gray. Alex Astrada crossed the goal line three times on nine carries while Kaylub Roberts, Graden Lebow and Jason Everett each found their way into the stat book with one rushing score each.

Defensive Leaders –

The defense once again shined as they recorded 21 tackles for a loss and created two turnovers via a fumble recovery and a blocked kick. Everett again led the way in tackles with 12 (5 for loss) followed by Lackey with 8 (4 for loss) and Roberts with 8 tackles.
