Greetings from Bend!
At the September Bend-Chappel TEEA Meeting, nine members brought their favorite cookbooks or recipes. To list a few: Carolyn McDowell brought the “Gold Medal Century of Success Cookbook, the Best Gold Medal Recipes of 100 Years.” She said that she would have taken better care of it if she would have known that it would increase in price to over $75.
Orabeth Hicks brought her original red Bend Cookbook held together with three notebook rings and a large rubber band.
Gail Braymen brought Four Midwestern Sisters’ Christmas Book, a novel instead of an actual cookbook because it has her famous peanut brittle recipe and other recipes. Gail is from Iowa and has a sister.
Sharon Lloyd brought American Homemakers published by the Culinary Arts Institute in Chicago in 1964. It was thick and had indented tabs like a dictionary.
Malissa Lemons sent her family recipe for Pinto Beans used in 1954 at their Bar-B-Q place in Brady. Folks would come just for the famous beans.
The list of good recipes could go on and on.
Don’t forget that the monthly meetings start back up this weekend! This Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at the Bend Community Center, we will have our first community meeting of the year. We will be planning the fish fry.
