San Saba Garden Club concludes 2023-24 Club year on a high note

The May meeting of the San Saba Garden Club (SSGC) took place at Cindy Sloan’s beautifully appointed historic home on the Sloan family ranch, with 22 members in attendance.

Cindy’s home offers a stunning panoramic view of San Saba County, with the river winding far below. Atop the mountain, gentle breezes reminded everyone of the unique beauty of our corner of the hill country.

Cindy has lovingly preserved many family heirlooms, which are prominently displayed throughout the house. The result is museum-quality decor within a warm and inviting atmosphere. Members enjoyed exploring these treasures, sharing stories, and catching up on recent events as they mingled.

The festive spirit of May was evident among attendees, with conversations ranging from the recent blessings of rain to upcoming summer travel plans.

Hostesses Jacqueline Carson, Marti Free, and Cindy Sloan treated the group to a delightful light luncheon featuring chicken salad tea sandwiches, artichoke dip with pita crackers, fresh fruit, gourmet sweet pickle chips, and cookies. Refreshments included lemonade and infused water, perfectly complementing the spread.

Guest speaker Kiley Moran, TAMU Wildlife Urban Interface Coordinator for Region 8, delivered a highly informative presentation on best landscaping practices to prevent fires near homes. His expertise sparked questions and discussion among the members, enhancing the value of the May program.

Debbie Shahan led a brief business meeting, concluding with the group adjourning in good spirits, eagerly anticipating the club's activities resuming after a summer hiatus.
