Hebrews 10:25 “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more as you see the day approaching.”
I’m interested in the word “exhort.” Its meaning is “to encourage, to embolden, or to cheer on.” It also carries the definition, “to excite by words, or to give strength, spirit or courage.”
We live in a harsh and cruel world. It seems as though everything and everybody is spewing and spouting negativism.
Paul, here in his letter to the Hebrews is giving the solution to the problem. Instead of beating people up, we are to exhort them and build them up by challenging them, or as Hebrews 10:24 says, “To provoke unto love and good works.” The doxology we sing sometimes says, “Praise God from whom all blessings flow, praise him all creatures here below, praise him above ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.” Talk about encouraging, that says it all. And then Psalm 150:6 sums it all up, “Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.” We are to praise the Lord and encourage others to do the same; because all earthly and heavenly blessings come from him.
I believe our passage today speaks of the assembling of ourselves (together) in the House of the Lord (Church) where we can encourage and be encouraged by other believers.
I’m thankful for the ministry of live stream Church services for those who are home bound and unable to attend in person, but those who can, but won’t, are missing out on many blessings that can only come by being there in person.
The Church House is a place of awe, worship and holy business, and is built for that purpose. Our homes are built and used for comfort and leisure and daily living, and it is sometimes hard to worship properly while in our recliner watching the service.
I’m trying to exhort us to be a part of a local Church, to attend its services, give to its support, and fellowship and pray for the other believers assembled there.
Are you faithful to the services of your Church? Psalm 12:1 speaks of that subject, “Help, LORD, for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.”
Proverbs 20:6 “A faithful man who can find?” Proverbs 28:20 “A faithful man shall abound with blessings.” Matthew 24:45 “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his Lord hath made ruler over his household, to give meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.”
Your personal attendance in the Church services is an encouragement and blessing to the other believers.
Find a Church that you can be a part of, and get in, be faithful, and do your part.
