The May 2024 Yard of Month designated by San Saba Garden Club is at 1201 W. Commerce, home of Lesa and Ronnie Schulze since 1974.
Lesa cared for the yard, but over is time, a disease was killing the lawn. Rather than digging it all up to sterilize the ground and resod, Lesa has slowly replaced the damaged lawn with pathways of stone and gravel. These paths outline beds of blue misty, red salvia, coneflowers, daisies, and white and yellow and daylilies. Blue misty is truly a delight as it provides a haven for butterflies that flit between shade and sunshine, refreshed by several ponds.
The paths lead over a small bridge and through an arbor covered in trumpet vine. Beyond are a peaceful pocket garden and an open area with a pond surrounded by purple jew. The backyard is shaded by the grape arbor. This year, bluebonnets covered the ground. Lesa harvested pods for seeds to plant for next year. Truly a delightful garden.
