1 Corinthians 2:10, 11, we are told of the mysterious and hidden things of God. The verse says, “But as it is written eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.”
As I read these verses, my mind starts thinking about heaven because that seems to always be the theme when they are preached or taught. That certainly is a beautiful thought, that the physical eye, the physical ear, and the physical mind are incapable of comprehending all the glorious beauty of that place that Christ has gone to prepare for all who have put their trust in him. He even said in John 14:1-3 “Let not your heart be troubled, ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
I don’t think our finite minds can really grasp the magnificent splendor of that place that Christ himself has gone to prepare for his beloved ones. This is speaking of that heavenly paradise with all its dazzling colors, and soft, soothing sounds. It is inexpressible in glory. It will be overwhelming, and far beyond anything we can imagine. It makes me want to go!
Not only does this passage speak of heaven, but I also think it is giving us a glimpse of the daily benefits of this earthly life. In John 10:10, Jesus tells us what He gives here to those who are his, even in the midst of, and in spite of the devil’s plans. Hear his words: “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” I think he’s speaking of that abundance of joy, peace, mercy and grace that he gives to help us through the daily battles and temptations.
Our text verse says we can’t see, hear or think about with physical faculties what God has prepared for those who love him (That’s a key thought), but verse 11 says “But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit.” Jesus said that the Spirit of God, through the word of God will guide us into all truth, and will bring to our memory all things that he has taught. Revelation 21 and 22 reveal to us a small glimpse of the future home of the redeemed, and all the Bible tells us how to have that abundant life while we’re here.
