The first official weekly meeting for 2024 of the San Saba Rotary Club was held on Thursday, January 4th, at Pepperbelly’s Restaurant, President Buck Gilcrease presiding. Fourteen members, two guests, and two student guests were present.
The two student guests, representing the San Saba High School National Honor Society, were seniors: Gracen Shahan and Macy Sebastian.
Macy has been selected as the SSHS current Student of the Month. Both students are excited to be entering college next year, Gracen planning to enter the University of Texas at Austin studying Architectural Engineering, and Macy planning to enter Texas A&M seeking a degree in Forensic Science.
President Gilcrease commented on both the students and the guest teachers present as to the excellence of SSHS educational program. Gilcrease is School Superintendent and proud of the quality of his faculties and staffs!
Business discussed included planning for the Rotary- sponsored open Candidates Forum to be held on January 30th at the high school cafeteria from 6-8 p.m. Candidates for local office and the state legislature will be present to speak and answer questions regarding their agendas for political office. The public is cordially invited and encouraged to attend the forum.
Jerry Blankenship explained four high school students from San Saba and Cherokee would be attending RYLA, the Rotary Youth Leadership training program the weekend of January 12th through the 15th in New Braunfels. Transportation for the selected students was solicited.
