Our department has been dedicated to continual improvement to better serve our community. I wanted to relay all of our accomplishments and thank all of the individuals, organizations, businesses, and schools that have helped us continue to move forward.
So far this year...
The San Saba County Sheriff's Office by the numbers:
• A total of 225 persons have been arrested and booked into the San Saba County Jail by the San Saba County Sheriff's office, San Saba Police department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Parks & wildlife and Texas State Park Police
• 13 individuals have been sent to Texas Department of Corrections and 4 to SafeP a minimum department of Corrections • Responded to 1,368 calls
• Made 297 officer assists to other agencies
• Served 243 pieces of Civil Process
• Entered 84 arrest warrants for completed cases
• Issued 750 citations and warnings
• Took over 4,000 calls into dispatch
• Had a daily average of 17 inmates that were housed in various neighboring county jails in our state Department Equipment Updates: • We received financing for a new radio system that will benefit all agencies working in San Saba County, including San Saba Police Department, all Volunteer Fire Departments, Hamilton EMS, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and Texas Department of Public Safety.
• We have updated our reporting system to meet State requirements, enabling the department to apply for more grants and additional funding opportunities.
• We've added Mobile Data Terminals to all patrol vehicles to allow for our Deputies to work more effectively and efficiently. ◦ They can now run license plates and wanted subjects themselves and receive information back in a timelier manner.
◦ They can review previous case materials while in the field. ◦ Deputies are now able to complete their reports in the field, reducing time spent in the office to complete reports and increasing their time spend serving our community.
• We've added 2 new consoles in dispatch to address calls more effectively.
• We've purchased equipment for our deputies including new tasers that communicate with our newly purchased body and vehicle cameras.
• We had a Polaris Ranger donated by Los Valles that improves our rural response abilities.
• Added a K9 Deputy, 'Andor', certified through Saber Working Dogs, to our department and outfitted him through donations by the San Saba Police Department, McCulloch County Sheriff's Office, and the City of Richland Springs, and Tractor Supply Co. - San Saba.
Government Funding
• We completed all the necessary training and requirements for receiving funding for a Mental Health Officer to better assist our community members in manic or crisis mental states.
• Texas Senate Bill 22 allows us additional funding for adding an Investigator to our department. This new position increases the accountability and timeliness of our case management for our County and District Attorneys. This position will assist with ongoing investigations. Assisting Agencies
• We've worked closely with our County and District Attorneys to clear the multitude of back logged cases through county and district courts.
• Having monthly meetings with Texas Department of Emergency Management to prepare for the Total Solar Eclipse happening on April 8th, 2024.
• We've been improving school safety by working with the school administrators at Cherokee ISD, Richland Springs ISD, Richland Springs ISD Police Department, San Saba ISD, San Saba Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Department of Wildlife and Texas State Park Police to keep the kids in our communities safe by improving and updating policies.
Community Engagement
• We hosted our first multicommunity National Night Out in collaboration with the newly formed 501(c)3, San Saba CommUNITY Supporters of the Badge Foundation. We worked with the San Saba Police Department, Texas Department of Transportation, Texas Department of Emergency Management, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Department of Park Police, CareFlite, Hamilton EMS, San Saba Volunteer Fire Department, Cherokee Volunteer Fire Department, Richland Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Elm Grove Volunteer Fire Department, Cherokee ISD, and Lowe's Market to bring this program to our community.
◦ We had over 150 participants, ◦ Swore in 21 new Junior Deputies Looking Forward
• In 2024 we will be starting our first Citizen's Academy.
• Application can be picked up at the county jail at 104 S. Water St.
• Next year's National Night Out will be on October 1st, 2024 2023 has been a busy year for our department and I could not have done all this without the support of our dispatchers, deputies, Chief Deputy, Jail Administrator, County and District Attorneys, San Saba Police Department, and all other assisting agencies and organizations. Please be sure to thank them when you see them. We are far from done though and we will be constantly striving to better protect and serve our community.
