The regularly scheduled weekly luncheon meeting of San Saba Rotary was held Thursday, November 2nd, at Pepperbelly's, Marcus Wood presiding. Ten members were present, as well as two students and two guests.
The recognized National Honor Society student was senior Karol Guerrero. Karol is NHS treasurer and hopes to attend Texas A & M University and major in accounting.
An additional guest was Herb Cross who was visiting the San Saba organization as a board member of the Waco Rotary Club. Mr. Cross said the Waco organization had 260 active members and that San Saba appeared to have a growing, active, and very positive club.
Program presenter for the Thursday meeting was Reneé Ham who is well known for her volunteerism among San Saba ISD Band Boosters. Recently, she and others have been engaged in formulating an exciting new volunteerism program among Central Texas School Districts and community organizations. In response to area school district concerns following the aftermath of the Covid school shutdowns; the hiatus that occurred as a result of the school closures; and the student malaise and loss of interest that schools, students, and families all experienced; school leaders and superintendents, initially Killeen ISD and later, San Saba, sought pastoral assistance in establishing positive responses to these concerns. Ms. Ham with others started the Central Station Volunteerism, a program to encourage volunteerism among students which has the dual service of creating better informed young citizens in the community while assisting students in accumulating volunteer hours, especially necessary for university entrance!
