San Saba Garden Club holds October meeting

Seventeen members of The San Saba Garden Club (SSGC) convened on October 3rd at the home of Sarah Lott in Catclaw Community to finish the pumpkin pinch pots they had begun at the September meeting. Lott had fired them in her kiln to prepare for the final step of painting.

Hostesses were Jan Beaver ( chair), Susan Kissko, and Sarah Lott, who provided a generous spread of fall-themed foods: cocktail meatballs; bacon- wrapped cheese-and-pecan stuffed dates; pickled baby beets; layered cheese spread with crackers, strawberries, and grapes; apple crisp bars; and pumpkin and pecan tarts.

President Debbie Shahan presided over the business portion of the meeting, which included friends sharing heartfelt remembrances of Lisa Foil, a beloved and valuable SSGC member who recently passed away. The club voted to purchase and plant a Burr Oak Tree near the Clubhouse in Lisa’s honor.

A warm welcome was extended to new member Marsha Smart, and following several committee reports, the meeting concluded with a Horticultural Moment and special prize of Mexican petunias donated by Debbie Shahan and won by Barbara Bell.

Individuals interested in visiting or joining the San Saba Garden Club are encouraged to attend the November meeting which will be held on the 7th in the Mill Pond Clubhouse at 2:00 p.m. They may also email Debbie Shahan at dfshahan@centex.net Our next get-together features a flower arranging workshop by Donna McKinney.
