The regularly scheduled weekly luncheon meeting of the San Saba Rotary occurred Thursday, October 5th, at Pepperbelly's, Marcus Wood presiding. Fifteen members and two student guests were present.
National Honor Society students, Austyn Graham and One Nguyen, shared their future plans after graduating. Austyn plans on attending Mary Hardin-Baylor University and becoming a physical therapist. One has not yet determined her university, but she plans to pursue a career in medicine, becoming first an RN and then continuing in advanced medicine.
As part of the meeting program, San Saba County Attorney Randy Robinson reported on the recent accomplishments of the Texas Legislature. Mr. Robinson stated that this summer, the Legislature passed 1,249 new laws, with topics as varied as the requirement for built-in fire systems in dog boarding sites.
Mr. Robinson observed that the Texas Constitution was written so that Propositions were presented directly to Texas voters to avoid the cumbersome and lengthy adoption of amendments that take so long to be accepted as amendments to the U.S. Constitution. He noted that several of the 15 propositions, including Senate and House bills, are especially important in the upcoming November 7th election. These Senate and House bills provide for increased border security, ensuring that elections are secure, providing for changes and security in public education, cost of living increase for Texas Retired Teachers, for protection in the continuance of Texas farming and ranching against the encroachment by cities and urban entities, for security of Texas water (a real concern for the future as aquifers diminish), for rural healthcare, for Texas Broadband Infrastructure, and, finally, improvement and grid security for ERCOT, with use of Texas energy sources, coal, nuclear, and natural gas.
Mr. Robinson encouraged voters to study the flyer provided by State Representative David Spiller through US mail and importantly, to VOTE on November 7th. Early voting starts Monday, October 10th.
