Last Hill Country Naturalist
Dear Readers,
This will be my last Hill Country Naturalist column. I very much want to thank all of you readers, who are always on my mind and for whom I hope I have provided some level of appreciation of our native environment.
I began writing this column for the Kerrville Daily Times about 10 years ago, and this column has been printed in this paper ever since. I very much want to thank the folks at the Daily Times for their consistent handling of the column every week. I want to especially thank Jeanette Nash for her consistent handling of every column and, in recent years her addition of relevant photos as well. THANK YOU.
In more recent years, some of the regional papers have also been running the column. I especially want to thank the following papers for running this column: San Saba, Mason, Fredericksburg, Johnson City, and Blanco.
In addition to writing the columns, I have also written three full books. The first book was “Hill Country Landowner’s Guide,” published by Texas A & M University Press, in 2009. This book received the Native Plant Society of Texas Carroll Abbott award for writing in the popular vein. The first printing of this book sold out and is being reprinted by Texas A & M Press. It should be available this Fall.
My second book was “A Beginners Handbook for Rural Texas Landowners. How to Live in the Country without spoiling it.” This book was published in 2014 by Outskirts Press Inc. 888 672 6657, http//www.Outskirts Press.com.
My third book, “Hill Country Ecology, Essays on Plants, Animals, Water, and Land Management.” This book was published in 2017 and is still available at Hugo House Publishers. LTD www.HugoHousePublishers. com.
Finally, in 2020, I wrote a 60-page booklet, A Guide For Small Hill Country Landowners, Managing Your LandAs Leopold Would. These can be picked up at Riverside Nature Center.
