The regular Thursday lunch weekly meeting of the San Saba Rotary was held at Pepperbelly's on September 7th with Beth Griess presiding. Present were 16 members and one San Saba HS National Honor Society student guest, Nicole Walsh.
Rotarian Jerry Blankenship and SSISD teachers determined local students will write essays for Rotary recognition this school year based on the Rotary International Worldwide Theme for 2023-24, Creating Hope in the World.
The program included ZOOM speaker Randall Carr whose program Knights of the Guild is being implemented in San Antonio and supported in San Marcus ISD by the San Marcus Rotary. Initiated first in Boerne,Texas, but patterned after a program in Oklahoma, the program is designed to build social emotional learning with the premise that using chivalry as the inspiration for developing academic growth as well as the concept of creating students as servants. Positive reinforcers can encourage development of students’service projects. One of the current school projects in the Chivalry program was to support an orphanage in Angola.
San Saba teachers present at the meeting described the local SSISD curriculum designed to foster student social, emotional learning, and student dignity as “Capturing Kids’Hearts.” Rotarians present considered providing possible positive reinforcers for use in the local program.
