The Volunteer Fire Departments are keeping very busy.
Thick, black smoke sent San Saba volunteer firefighters scrambling on Tuesday, July 18th, about 2:30 p.m. A neighbor on County Road 114 had called in a grass fire, which was moving toward a home on the property. Firefighters quickly arrived to find a field around the house ablaze, and measures were taken to secure the home and outbuilding from the approaching flames. Several brush trucks and the VFD’s large water tanker were on scene, and they were able to stop the progress of the fire and suppress it after a couple of hours.
The owner suffered damage to various equipment and objects lying around the house and in the pasture, but no injuries were reported.
Please - during these hot, dry and windy conditions, refrain from any activity that could lead to a spark or flame (examples: cutting, grinding, welding, burning, discarding cigarettes, etc.).
