Free Austin Workshop Helps Veterans Turn Ideas into Working Software Prototypes

Austin, Texas —Veterans with an idea for building a software business can turn that idea into a working prototype during a free, hands-on workshop on Sept. 4 in Austin — with no coding experience required.

The Veteran SaaS Launch Lab, held Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Carver Branch Library in Austin, is open to veterans, service members, military spouses and military family members interested in building a software-based business.

The event is presented by the Veteran Entrepreneur Network and industry expert Goddit, LLC, with support from the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Veteran Entrepreneur Program.

“Veterans bring problem-solving skills, leadership, and real-world experience that can translate naturally to entrepreneurship,” said Megan Tamez, Director of TVC’s Veteran Entrepreneur Program and an Army veteran. “This workshop gives participants a practical opportunity to take an idea, build something tangible and explore whether it can become a business.”

This workshop is designed specifically to assist veterans, service members, military spouses and military family members who have ideas for apps and services provided by software without them needing to become a software developer,” said Veteran Entrepreneur Network Co-Founder and Army veteran Rob Bingham. “No technical or coding experience is required. Just bring your ideas, your laptop and your entrepreneurial mindset.”

TVC’s Veteran Entrepreneur Program will also be available at the event to connect veterans with state benefits for veteran-owned businesses and services from the recently launched Veterans Business Outreach Center.

Veteran-owned businesses are a growing and significant sector of the Texas economy. According to the U.S. Small Business Association (SBA) there were 3.5 million small businesses in Texas in 2025. More than 175,000 of those businesses were veteran-owned, representing roughly 5% of all small businesses in the state. Since 2016, the TVC Veteran Entrepreneur Program has verified more than 45,400 businesses as veteran-owned, making them eligible for State of Texas benefits such as fee and franchise tax exemptions. Veteran-owned businesses contributed $1.18 billion to the economy in 2022.
