Central Texas College (CTC) invites the public to learn more about its Licensed Massage Therapy program during one of four open house orientations. Each session is free and designed to assist anyone interested in a career in massage therapy.
Each open house orientation will be held at the CTC Department of Health Sciences (Bldg. 557), located on Central Texas College Dr., in classroom B203 on the second floor. Interested persons only need to attend one of the orientations which are scheduled for Thursday, July 27, at 10 a.m.; Monday, July 31, at 3 p.m.; Thursday, August 10, at 10 a.m.; and Wednesday, September 6, at 2 p.m.
Initially offered as a noncredit certificate program, CTC’s massage therapy curriculum was approved two years ago by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board as a certificate of completion for college credit. “Students can now earn 28 college credit hours as they pursue a career in massage therapy,” said Viola Crowder-Moger, director of the CTC Licensed Massage Therapy program. “Once they earn a certificate of completion, students are then eligible for either the State of Texas Massage Therapist Exam or the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam administered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards. According to the U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary for a licensed massage therapist in Texas is more than $49,000.”
In addition to accreditation for college credit, CTC Licensed Massage Therapy program was also accredited last year by the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation. “The program’s curriculum and quality have been evaluated and judged to meet the standards of the massage therapy profession,” said Crowder-Moger. “It also reaffirms the quality of education provided to students.”
The open house orientations will benefit anyone looking to start a career in massage therapy. Those who have already applied to the CTC program will be fulfilling their “orientation” requirement. Participants can meet the staff, tour the classrooms and will have the opportunity to ask questions about the program.
Anyone interested in attending one of the open house orientations can contact CTC by calling the Licensed Massage Therapy department at 254-526-1890 and RSVP with the session of their choice.
