In 1958 Jym A. Sloan published “Old Timers of Wallace Creek” and it was printed by the commercial printing arm of the San Saba News.
Page 1 of the April 10, 1958, San Saba News describes the contents of the book as relating “the history of the white men settling in the community of Wallace Creek.”
There are many historical events in the book often related in the biographies of the pioneers including stories of Indians, school days, cattle drives, and the Mob.
Sloan, who was 90 at the time of the printing, knew many of the pioneer settlers discussed in his book, and he had been a correspondent as “Lemon Squeezer” for the News for more than 60 years.
At some point Mr. Howard Harrison, the San Saba News owner at the time, stored away the unsold copies. Recently, Harrison’s daughter, Amy, found them while preparing for a move. She has graciously donated them to the Friends. This donation provides an opportunity to share this wonderful history with the community again and raise funds for the many projects of the Friends of the Rylander Library.
