Cherokee and San Saba volunteer fire departments were called to a structure fire on County Road 437 south of Cherokee in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 23rd.
Cherokee units were first on the scene, and found the home fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters subdued the flames, but the home was a total loss. Fortunately, all residents were able to safely evacuate, and the fire was contained to the structure without spreading to adjacent structures, including a pen with ducks that were unharmed.
Thunderstorms with lightning were in the area that night, but the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
