Camp Bowie – Recently 174 men from various organizations in Camp Bowie were invited to spend a day in the San Saba Valley with various ranchers on their extensive acres. The invitation was extended through the Lions and Rotary Clubs of San Saba by Mrs. S. D. Roberts, a resident of that community.
Mrs. F. W. Farley and children, Farris and Patsy Ruth Farley, have been here to visit briefly in their home and with relatives and friends en route to Washington, D. C. where they will join Capt. Farley, who has recently been transferred to Washington from Fort Sill.
A former teacher at the State Hospital in Austin, and in Williamson County, Pvt. John T. McCutcheon, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. McCutcheon of near San Saba, is stationed with the armed forces in North Africa. His is serving as a radio technician.
The Cherokee High School commencement exercises will be Wednesday night. Judge W. H. Randolph of San Saba will be the speaker. The seniors this year are Bettie Jo Gage, Betty Evelyn Sifford, Bettie Jo Ellison, Maxine Broyles, Julia Beth Hilman, Johnnie Lee Kattes, Dessie Johnston and Aubry Gates.
An unusually light oat crop is to be harvested here shortly, states Gus Behrens, local public weigher, who states that combines are being set to cutting this week. The drought in the fall and winter, coupled with freezes and more dry weather, has caused the short crop, say farmers.
H. Edgar is the proud owner of an entire new equipment for his shoe shop. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar have been in business here for four years, and their customers are all satisfied customers. He invites his customers and friends to drop in and see the new machinery.

30 Years Ago May 20, 1993
New owners of the Gulf, Colorado, and San Saba Railway brought the first train through town last week after the company bought the 68 mile line. Officials on hand for the ceremony were Roy Williams, Vice President; Richard McClure, CEO; and Ross Jennings, Engineer.
Chris Davenport is a recipient of a three year United States Army R.O.T.C. Scholarship. This scholarship covers books and tuition beginning his sophomore year. Chris will be attending Texas A&M University in the fall where he will be a member of the Corps of Cadets. He will be majoring in mechanical engineering. Chris is the son of Dave and Susie Davenport and grandson of Wanda Davenport.
San Saba Junior High twirlers for the 93-94 school year will be: from seventh grade, Katie Crenwelge and Crissy Potts; from eighth grade, Sara Wilson and Mindy Schulze. Being a twirler, cheerleader, athlete, band member, or just student are many things our students are looking forward to in Junior High.
Mr. and Miss SSHS are Laura Shook and Chris Davenport. They were voted by San Saba High School students last week.
Through the laughter and the tears, look who's been married fifty years. Mr. and Mrs. Dale McKinnerney, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Womack and Mr. and Mrs. Gayland McKinnerney announce the Golden Wedding Anniversary of their parents, John D. and Billie George McKinnerney of Richland Springs, Texas. John and Billie were married May 12, 1943 in the Lakeview Community.
Newest members of the 1993-94 San Saba Drill Team are Mandy Lebow, Misty Hyatt, Kari Sloan, Michelle Menchaca, Jennifer Watson, Crissy McPherson, Joni Stewart, Stephanie Ellis, Kyla Byrd, Tara Whitley, Shele Sanderson, and Rachel Haynes.
