The Richland Springs Report

The question the ladies posed this morning at church today was what to wear that was springlike but warm. Sometimes the weatherman says, “cold front” and you don’t hardly feel the change. This morning, I suspect my plants wanted to pull on a blanket, the okra will stay in the ground, and the Bermuda will retreat to warmer spots. We did get some much needed rain; that makes the cold good.

Saturday, Russ and I picked up the wood and debris from a tree that was cut down. It took a few hours since we don’t work quickly. It looked so neat that Russ decided to mow around the area.

Now, we are talking about our front yard. The trees are at most thirty feet from the front porch. Imagine our shock to see a coyote hop up and trot across the yard when we fired up the mower. I wasn’t sure if he was sick or someone’s pet who wandered. I am sure that he is an unwanted guest.

The kids have completed round one of the STAAR tests. Mrs. Starr was pleased that they had very few computer issues, and those that did have were quickly resolved.

I was told Jasper Farris placed fourth in the UIL persuasive speaking event. Connor Womack tied for sixth in computer application.

Mrs. Locker and Mrs. Starr took a group of Regional Qualifiers to Aggie Muster. They listened as Dat Nguyen spoke. Mrs. Locker took his “be where your feet are” to heart and believes it will sustain her for this last push to finish the year.

Be aware that the Regional track meet is this Friday and Saturday, the 28th-29th.

This Wednesday will be the last Wednesday Kids’Church for the school year. The kids will be making Mother’s Day gifts and enjoying pizza and ice cream.

We will be sending out notices for VBS in a few weeks. We hate to pause the program, but there are so many events at the end of the school year. May events include the Alumni Banquet on Saturday before Mother’s Day; eighth grade luncheon, May 16th; Senior’s luncheon May 18th; and the Senior Goat Roping is May 7th.

Our community is reeling over the shock of the death of Jo Lei Miller Henniger. Our heartfelt prayers go out to the Lee and Paula Miller family. There has been an account set up in their name at the Commercial National Bank in San Saba.

Prayers are also needed for Curtis Johnson and his family. Shannon Barclay Morris needs prayers after doctors say she had a silent heart attack. Macie Jeffcoat is hospitalized with a severe intestinal infection and Danny Phillips was taken to the hospital.

Praise God, Vicki Moreno received a good report from her cancer doctor. Kathy Brockman is still trying to regain her strength after her recent illness. So many others need prayers for cancer.

Please keep Shiloh Church in your prayers as that congregation deals with their grief for the Miller family.

As always, pray for our country, our government, and our American way of life. It seems as if we are drowning in debt, fear, and anger. We need a return to good government and civility. America must stay strong; we are the light on the hill, the safety for so many people.

Keep our borders open for legal applicants. May God bless America and provide us with more rain. Take time to praise our police officers and emergency volunteers. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.
