Considering the brutal conditions that almost the entire state of Texas had to endure just over six months ago, many of us aren’t necessarily excited about the upcoming winter – and, according to the Farmers Almanac, there’s ample reason to be apprehensive. Well below-average temperatures are predicted for winter 2021-2022 in the central and south-central part of the country, so it’s time to start thinking ahead and making plans.
During these uncertain times, please keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket list to visit at a later date.
After February's historic winter storm that left much of Texas to suffer in the cold and dark, nobody wants to hear that this upcoming season could bring more of the same.
Preparedness is key, however, so it's best to learn all we can about the weather patterns instead of allowing ourselves to be caught off-guard once again.
The Farmers Almanac predicts that Texas will see bitterly cold temperatures for the 2021-2022 winter season.
Despite the frigid forecast, however, precipitation should be nearly normal. That means (with luck) there won't be as many opportunities for a snow and ice event like what we saw this year to occur.
If a colder-than-average winter is in the cards for us, the worst of it should arrive in late January.
So enjoy the holidays to the fullest, then ramp up preparations after the first of the year.
In stark contrast, February will likely turn out to be a much quieter month.
A significant drop-off in precipitation is forecast - and considering the potential for stormy weather is already no higher than average for Texas, that spells good news!
March will be akin to a seesaw, with periods of winter weather followed by mild, uneventful conditions.
By this time, we'll all be eagerly anticipating the arrival of spring, but just know that it may take a little while longer than usual to warm up.
On the bright side, perhaps you'll get the chance to build a snowman!
Unlike our friends up north, we Texans rarely have enough of the white stuff to work with for a snowball fight, let alone a full-blown Frosty!
So if you've been eyeing a nice winter coat for a while, now would be a good time to bite the bullet and go for it.
As the saying goes, hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. That way, you'll never be disappointed!
