Mason - San Saba ~ February 9, 2023 Receipts totaled 2,915. The market was very active with extremely strong demand. The stocker steers were $20-$30 higher with 9 steers 536 lbs at $238.00 ($1275.68), and the stocker heifers sold $15-$20 higher with 3 heifers 533 lbs at $220.00 ($1172.60).

Short hay supplies and demand have now pushed hay bale prices toward record high prices Hay supplies remain short and prices, continue to rise as Texas cattle ranchers try to feed herds through winter, according to Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service experts.

Central Texas Electric Cooperative will award $1,000 college scholarships this year to 25 students in the co-op’s service area, bringing the total amount of financial help given to area students to $689,000 over the past 26 years.

Mason - San Saba January 30, 2023 Receipts totaled 420 head with no sale on Thursday due to the winter weather we experienced. The market opened the week with good demand on a lighter offering due to the weather conditions. Stocker steers and heifers sold steady to $2 lower.

The U.S. and Texas cattle herds showed decreases on the January 1 cattle inventory report released this week by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). There were 89.3 million head of cattle and calves in the U.S., down 3% from 92.1 million head last year.
