Operation Orphans looking for more ranches

Operation Orphans, Inc., enjoyed another successful season of taking less fortunate children deer hunting in the Texas hill country Saturday, January 13th. Forty-one boys from five child residential homes harvested 32 animals.

ARC and PLC programs receive 2018 Farm Bill one year extension

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that agricultural producers can now enroll in the Farm Service Agency’s (FSA)Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs for the 2024 crop year. Producers can enroll and make election changes for the 2024 crop year.

LCRA community grant program accepting applications through January

Grants of up to $50,000 available to first responders, civic groups and other nonprofits Applications for grants of up to $50,000 to support first responders and community projects are available from the Lower Colorado River Authority.

San Saba Native releases first novel

Dalton Gossett attended San Saba High School where he was member of the National Honor Society and the 1963 bi-district-winning armadillo football team. After graduation in 1964, he attended Texas State University and Texas A&M where he received a Ph.D. degree.

San Saba ISD welcomes new superintendent

The San Saba ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to hire Mr. Keith Owen as Superintendent of Schools on January 8, 2024. He will replace Dr. Buck Gilcrease who stepped down from the position. Dr. Gilcrease stated, “I want to congratulate Mr. Owen and the SSISD school board.

SSHS NHS Dude.Be.Nice

The Dude.Be.Nice Committee from the San Saba High School National Honor Society has selected December and January honorees. The NHS committee chooses individuals who exhibit great acts of kindness and service to others in their community/school.

American Legion Post gets new look

There were 22 people that attended the meeting of the Wiley B. Murray Post No. 27 on January 11th. Two new veterans were voted into the post membership, Angela Tinney and Kody Morris. Angela served as a trauma nurse in the US Air Force and is employed at San Saba High School.
