The National Honor Society (NHS) announced that Kristi Macias, a high school senior at San Saba High School and member of NHS, has been selected as an NHS Scholarship semifinalist.

Since 1946, more than $21 million in scholarships have been awarded to outstanding NHS senior members to support college access and student success. The scholarship program is supported by the parent organization of NHS, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

In the 100+ years since NHS was founded in 1921, members have been making a difference in their schools and communities, and the NHS Scholarship is NASSP’s way of recognizing the most exceptional of these student leaders. Recipients are chosen based on their demonstrated work to support the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

“Despite the challenges of educating the youth of today, the true reward is in the opportunity to work with students who are truly extraordinary in both their academic goals and their display of genuine character. Ms. Kristi Macias is a student of integrity, strength, and ingenuity. She is a scholar who seeks understanding and expansion of her own knowledge, and she leads her peers with a perfectly combined sense of grace and expectation. She remains true to the pillars of NHS and true to the heart of San Saba High School.” Elizabeth Chambers, M.Ed, San Saba High School.

At San Saba High School, Kristi Macias has been a part of the San Saba Junior Chamber of Commerce, putting in the time and effort to make the float for the Fourth of July parade here in town and other Chamberled events. She has also been in Student Council for four years, has helped Salvation Army by ringing the bell, and has helped the San Saba County Never Surrender Foundation. She has been a leader in many organizations at San Saba High School including Captain of the Drill Team, Drum Major of the Golden Armadillo Band, Vice President of the Student Council and the President of the San Saba High School National Honors Society. This fall, she will attend Texas A&M University as an undergraduate business major. She hopes to one day work at an accounting firm.
