This weekend was like a ghost town. Even church attendance was low.

Many huge parking lots around town sat empty.

The town was ready. San Saba was sprinkled with Porta Potties everywhere.

The weather forecast was not the best news to small towns planning on big crowds.

Weather alerts said it all depends on the timing of the storm front that is coming. Hard to tell how much cloud cover there will be.

But then….. The weather changed.… a little.

Austin’s weather forecast got worse, and those visitors started driving, roaming, looking for a better place to view the Total Solar Eclipse.

Many of them settled here in San Saba, Texas.

Traffic picked up. Cameras came out - hours before the eclipse. People started taking photos of our beautiful town.

The clouds started coming - spotty. You could hear “Ohs” as the clouds covered the sun as everything went black through the eclipse glasses. But, if you were patient, you saw it again. And then the “Ohs” changed to “Ahs!”

As the totality started, you could hear folks whoop and holler - first to the east of downtown at Mill Pond Park…and then a few seconds later, at the square…and then a few more seconds, you heard it farther west towards Harry's.

As soon as the Totality was over, folks started leaving. “Those who saw it will remember it forever” - Yvonne Contreras The Total Solar Eclipse certainly lived up to the 'Once in a lifetime event' slogan.

See Pages 2 and 12 for more eclipse photos.
