Spending bill allocates billions for Texas flood recovery, military facilities, farms

The $1.2 trillion omnibus appropriations legislation signed on March 15, will allocate billions to Texas infrastructure, flood mitigation, agriculture, and defense.

Allocations from the FY 2022 omnibus appropriations package will provide $22 billion for interior enforcement and border security efforts, including equipment upgrades and tactical infrastructure along the southern border.

Flood mitigation and ecosystem restoration in Texas will receive an investment of $8 billion, and rural Texas communities and agriculture industry will get a portion of $100 billion for farm and food safety net programs authorized by the Farm Bill.

The spending package strengthens national security with a 6 percent increase in defense spending, including a $436 million investment to upgrade and improve military facilities in Texas.

It will help border communities absorb the costs from illegal immigration by directing $130 million to the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) to compensate them.

The bill will fund the national government through the end of the fiscal year in September.
