On behalf of the San Saba County Commissioners Court, I wanted to update our community on the status of the County’s involvement in the Bell County East to Big Hill 765-KV Transmission Line Project.
First and foremost, the San Saba County Commissioners Court has been and will remain opposed to the construction of these transmission lines in our County.
On June 17, 2025, I met with representatives from LCRA and Oncor prior to their first public meeting regarding our concerns and objections to the construction of the 765-KV transmission lines in San Saba County. From that date forward, myself and the Court have communicated with the legislature and representatives of LCRA to protect our county and communities.
The Court wanted to ensure that we did everything we could to guide and protect our county. Through conversations with state and federal elected officials, we expressed our concerns and opposition. We supported our representatives as they expressed opposition to the transmission lines. The Court also determined a need to hire legal counsel to advise the Court in our efforts to oppose the construction of the transmission lines.
Once the April 27, 2026 deadline to intervene date was ordered, the Court scheduled a public hearing with our legal counsel to assist our county landowners in understanding the process, how to intervene, and what to expect once you intervene. We had around 150 people show up for what turned into two and a half hour meeting of information, support and questions answered.
The Court, while supporting all of our landowners to intervene in opposition, had concerns about intervening into the case due to issues such as any appearance that we are advocating or opposing a particular route through the county that might hurt one community member versus another and the cost of intervention to our constituents, etc..
After discussing with legal counsel and open public discussion at commissioners court, the Court elected to intervene into the case so that we may continue to be a voice for our community as well as being on record of our opposition to the transmission lines in San Saba County.
No later than May 13, 2026, the Court will file our direct testimony in the case with the County’s stated position and opposition to the transmission line. We will also continue to work with our state representatives to fight for more research, more time and more consideration from the Public Utility Commission, Oncor and LCRA into their decision to build these massive lines that will do so much damage to counties across our great state.
Sincerely, Jody Fauley, County Judge
