The Richland Springs Report

The quilting ladies spent three lovely days in Stonewall, Texas, this past week. Kay Huffman has a beautiful hilltop quilting house that accommodates 11 people. You can sit on the back porch and watch the deer come up to the feeder below. She has Oreo cookie cows, better known as belted Galloways, while hummers bombard her feeders. Christine and I brought home a few cuttings of her Lion’s Tail flowers. They easily stood six feet tall. We cover many topics in that three-day period and churn out homemade sewing projects at an amazing rate. I can tell you that those ladies are multitalented. Our next visit to Stonewall will be in January.

Chrissy’s Garden House is coming along slowly. Annie’s House was abused for many months and needs many hours of loving care. I noticed that the house next door that was sold at auction has been cleaned out as well. I’m told it was not without some drama. Among other garbage, the property had more than its fair share of scorpions. I am not a fan of scorpions. Hopefully, we can clean up the properties that lead into our cute little town before the Independence Day celebrations. Everyone needs to do their part to keep Richland Springs beautiful, not just the Beautification Committee.

There will be many vendors in town for the July celebration. But don’t forget our local vendors. Each of them will have goodies available for sale. Downtown you will have Skelton’s Hardware, BoHo Unique, and Chrissy’s Plants and Things, and up the road will be Yellow Duck #2, Coyote Store, McKinnerney’s Real Estate, and The Feedlot. All these businesses need support, in other words, we need to shop locally.

So, I have replaced my iPhone 7 with my son Shane’s used iPhone 10. I wish I could say it has gone well. I do have it up and running. I can call out, but all other functions are mysteries for me to explore. It will give my children and friends new material for laughter. I can truthfully say I dislike phones, although I recognize their usefulness. I am just not patient with the little tricks that make them work.

As usual the prayer list is long. Diane Hain is having complications after her recent surgery. Jessie Stewart is having back issues. The Stratton's need prayer for their son Scott and for their daughter’s loss of her husband in a motorcycle accident. Donna Hill is struggling with health issues. Prayers are also needed for the Powell family.

Ida May “Skeeter” Parks passed away at the age of 93. Jeremy Young is seriously ill and waiting for doctors to find answers. There are many more on the list with cancer, old age issues, back pain, and diabetes. They need our prayers.

Our country needs prayers. It seems to many of us that we are a giant ship without a rudder. Our borders are open, and our minds are closed.

Please, Lord, help our President, our Congress, and other ruling bodies to return to our foundational truths. We continue to need rain, and our law-andorder officers are being stretched to horrific lengths. Most of all, bless our precious troops and their families.
