The Pierian Study Club met in the home of Patty Shaw on Thursday, January 12, 2023. Refreshments were served to 20 active and seven associate members. President Marcia Dyer presided over the meeting and asked Joanne Weik to introduce the guest speaker. Dr. Jon Hager told the group about Gospel Rocks Ranch which is a day camp for kids ages 5-12. The camp is devoted to sharing the Gospel and other aspects of biblical teaching in the context of ranch-style fun.

The minutes were read by Jacqueline Carlson and were unanimously approved. Kathleen Hawkins gave the treasurer’s report which included expenses as well as scholarships and memorials. Marsha Smart read a note from Araceli Hernandez, recipient of one of the scholarships given this year. Araceli once again thanked the organization and gave an update on her second semester of college. Kathleen gave an update on the membership committee, and Barbara Fowler was welcomed as a new member.

Joanne Weik, yearbook chairman, reminded everyone to check the yearbook to be up to date on upcoming meetings and plans. Cissy Williams, projects chairman, announced that the Angel Tree project was once again successful and the club’s participation was appreciated. Members provided gifts for over 40 Angel Tree recipients. Cissy reported that the Dove Project is doing well, and she will keep updating needs as they arise. Kay Stowell read a note from the Gideons thanking the club for their generous donation in memory of Larry Nettleship.

The February meeting will be on Thursday, the 9th, at the home of Cissy Williams.
