Hunting with Soldiers, through the wonderful people at Fathers House Church, and many Ranches, brings 20 Veterans to the San Saba area in January every year for a deer hunt. We also were going to a Ranch that now has some Family issues (Nothing to do with HwS) and we may not be able to get our Veterans there like we used to all through the year.
If any Ranch/Farm Owners wish to do any Veteran hunts, or even fishing trips, anywhere around San Saba, please email us at huntingwithsoldiers@live. com or you may contact Gordon Melton at 806-346-7248. We provide donation receipts and make sure all sign a Release of Liability Form prior to their trip.
If there is not a place for them to stay out there, we also put them in either a Hotel or Air B&B at our expense. We will have one or two Representatives there as well to make sure all rules of, first, the landowner, and also of HwS are followed.
It does not matter what they hunt. Our Trophy is getting them into the outdoors with other Combat Veterans who have been in similar situations, so they know that they are not alone, and to also give them a resource to reach out to when the demons, we call PTSD, start to haunt them. The harvest is just a plus.
We sure miss coming to San Saba as much as we did throughout the year. We love it there. Our Rule for the Veterans is that they can not have been out with more than two Organizations or multiple times with the same organization. We also require proof of Service as well. We vet these men and women as much as we can.
