Keep Texas Beautiful Leadership Award renamed to honor Stan Weik’s legacy

Keep Texas Beautiful will honor the memory of Stan Weik, former City Manager of San Saba, by renaming an annual award that recognizes the exceptional efforts of those working to enhance their community and protect the Lone Star State to include Stan’s name. Stan Weik passed away on May, 14, 2021.

Together with his wife, Joanne, Stan devoted his time, energy, and joyful spirit to elevating Keep San Saba Beautiful and Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB), where he was involved for many years and served as Board President. Stan met his wife through his involvement with KTB and both are Emeritus Directors of the organization. Over the years, Stan won many awards for his service including the Iron Eyes Cody Award from Keep America Beautiful, their highest honor, and the KTB Leadership Award.

Under its new name, the Stan Weik Leadership Award will continue to be the most prestigious award Keep Texas Beautiful presents. The award is a once-in-a-lifetime professional distinction bestowed on an individual who has provided outstanding leadership in improving and enhancing the environment of their community, the state of Texas, and beyond.

“Stan shared so much of his life with us,” said Suzanne Kho, KTB Executive Director. “This is a lasting way for Keep Texas Beautiful to honor Stan and his legacy that continues to inspire our work.”

Keep Texas Beautiful will present the inaugural Stan Weik Leadership Award at its annual conference in June 2022.

About Keep Texas Beautiful

Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) is a non-profit organization dedicated to making Texas the best place to live, work, and play by deploying resources for community improvement projects, cleanups, and youth engagement efforts across the state. Through our Keep Texas Recycling program, we provide assistance and education to support recycling in rural and underserved communities.

Everything we do is focused on mobilizing volunteers to take action by providing them with tools, resources, and training. Our fieldwork includes research on best practices for litter reduction along with the development of community programs to prevent the flow of litter to the Gulf.

Founded in 1967, Keep Texas Beautiful’s work is driven by its network of nearly 300 affiliate member communities, volunteers, and supporters that reach 17 million Texans annually.
