The community was invited to join KSSB at Mill Pond Park for a dedication ceremony, memorial of former City of San Saba Manager, George S. “Stan” Weik.

Through a KSSB project, a beautiful horseshoe formation bench (designed by Jose Rodriguez, Jr., of Modern Masonry Stone Construction) was built as a tribute to Stan’s memory.

On Friday, April 22, 2022, the group gathered around the wall and bench formation as San Saba City Manager, Scott Edmonson, welcomed the crowd, telling of his happenings in the brief time of him knowing Stan.

Pastor Sam Crosby of San Saba’s First Baptist Church gave a beautiful, touching invocation. Gale Ivy, KSSB Vice-Chair, Stan’s former co-worker and KSSB’s first Executive Director, recollected her adventures working with Stan and of Stan’s beautification efforts and vision for San Saba. Scott Glaze, City of San Saba Public Works Supervisor, reminisced of comical, meaningful, and lasting work experiences with Stan. Mayor Ken Jordan shared a story of interviewing Stan, selection as city manager, and of Stan’s 13 years of dedication to San Saba. Joanne Weik expressed thanks and announced that Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) had renamed the Leadership Beautify Award to the Stan Weik Leadership Award. Friends and KTB representatives, Cecil, Donna and Terri, unveiled the plaque commemorative of the event.

May this bench symbolize Stan’s service to the community of San Saba as visitors may pause to rest on this bench, perhaps gather here and reflect on the beauty of a particular tree or water fountain, or simply marvel at the tranquility of the water.
