San Saba has a hidden gem when it comes to lunch. It is healthy and inexpensive. What if I told you the cost was only...ages 60 and over - suggested donation $3.00, under 60 - suggested donation $7.25? Where else in town can you get a healthy meal for that cost?
Elizabeth Poe is the Center Director, and she is very excited about what the Senior Center has to offer the folks of San Saba. They serve lunch weekdays at noon, except for holidays. So, no meal this Thursday, July 4th. Their menu is posted each week in the San Saba News & Star.
On Fridays, they host a Bingo game at 11:00 a.m. with lots of prizes! They have classes and events available such as Nutrition Education (the first Monday of every month), Walk for Fun (8:30 a.m. M-F), Low-Impact Workout, Balance Exercises, Chair Yoga, Strength Exercises, and much more!
After lunch, some folks like to enjoy the back room (like a huge living room) which has games, puzzles, a TV, and an inviting couch and loveseat so you can just sit and visit. They even have a treadmill in case you want to work off the lunch you just ate.
At last Friday's lunch, there were 13 people who attended. Ms. Poe asked Mr. Gruesendorf to lead everyone in prayer. We then enjoyed a meal of Pork Sandwiches, pinto beans, coleslaw, and yogurt.
The meal was prepared by Jordyn Hughes, the Cook for the center. She does all the shopping, planning, and cooking.
See the menu for next week in this week's edition. All you have to do is call Ms. Poe and make a reservation. 325-372-5833. If you get the recording, just leave a message with your name and how many plates to you would like to reserve for lunch.
The Senior Center building is also available for rent. They have tables set up with chairs and a full service kitchen. Just call the Center to see if your requested dates are available.
