A fire off China Creek Road just south of the cemetery, sparked by a tractor, burned several hay bales last Tuesday, June 17th. Fortunately, there was no grass in the pasture, so the fire was contained to the hay bales.
There was lots of smoke, probably because the hay bales were slightly wet, and the fire was burning off some of the moisture.
There were two fire department crews monitoring the fire for several hours to make sure it was under control and posed no threat.
The spokesperson for the fire department, who asked I not use his name, stated that those kinds of fires will burn for several days. Because of the type of fire, hay bales burning, they don't have enough water to completely put it out; it would just restart.
In this instance, the landowner was monitoring the situation after the VFD left the scene, and the VFD was on standby in case they were needed again for the fire.
Thankfully, no structures were damaged, and no one was hurt by this fire.
