Hello, my San Saba loves, and did last week treat you well? Don’t you find it strange places like Oregon are experiencing triple digit temperatures and we are having a fairly mild summer? I sure hope the west coast gets some relief soon. I am sure they would rather cook breakfast on a stove than a sidewalk.
I was out on the back porch relaxing and began watching our resident cardinal couple. I do believe they were having a domestic discussion, and it was definitely not about where they wanted to go on their vacation. I heard the female just a squawking at her husband, and at one point I thought she would twist her head so much it would begin twisting around like the girls did in the Exorcist! I couldn’t tell if her husband was angry or embarrassed because hey, he is all red; how in the world could I see if he was blushing? Anyway, he started talking back, and the female ruffled her feathers, pecked at him and flew up to the fence. Not a moment later, her husband followed, apologized, and their chattering became more like conversation. I sat on the porch thinking how similar their little tiff seemed. We all have days when our nerves are on the very edge and those closest to us tread on them.
As I was spending time out back, I noticed most of the squirrels have found other yards to occupy. Rowena and her boyfriend are the only regulars left to harangue and harass me. I will say, however, those two do an excellent job. I went out the other day, and there was Rowena sitting on the railing up to the entrance to my porch. I immediately rushed up to the gate, barking in my loudest voice. Rowena was not amused, nor was she the least bit scared. In fact, she was quite the opposite; Rowena turned her butt toward me, waved her tail at me, turned back around, ran further up the rail, looked straight at me, ran along the top of the gate right above my head in total defiance and off she went! As for me, I was hoarse for half an hour after that little encounter; so I think she won!
I enjoy my adventures out in nature and with nature. I tried to catch a huge moth, but I don’t have wings, do I? What, dad? Oh how rude! Dad just said if I had wings, people would see me in the air and say…“Look, pigs actually can fly!” I think that was a fat joke, don’t you? He has no right to say that because he is the one who feeds me. It isn’t like I prepare my own meals and mom hasn’t been eating lately so she isn’t sharing any food with me. Yeah, if he thinks I look like a pig, then he is the reason I do.
I love you, my San Saba friends. I so appreciate having you in my life. I also have to say our special message from Alice Smith touched our hearts. We were so saddened and heart broken when her precious husband, Larry, died. There are some people in this world who live with such heart, empathy and commitment to make the lives of others richer, and Larry certainly did that, and so, too, does Alice. I hope each of you have a wonderful week until next we speak, and thank you for being.
