Driver hits vehicle; runs into Randy’s Barber Shop

    Very early on Saturday morning, Calvin Williams had just dropped off his wife, Thelma, at the Corner Cafe. He turned out on Wallace Street and was making his way to the Donut Shop when a pickup truck hit the passenger side of his car and then proceeded to run straight into Randy's Barber Shop on Wallace Street.

    Mr. Williams stated he was alone in the car when he was struck. He noted his car is now not driveable; he was surprised the gas tank didn't explode because of the great impact.

    Mr. Williams said EMS came and checked out everyone. As far as he knew, there were no serious injuries.

    I asked Police Chief John Bauer for information, and his office sent the following Press Release:

    Traffic crash causing property damage to Randy’s Barber Shop

    On July 22, 2023 at approximately 6:00 a.m., San Saba Police Officers responded to a Traffic Crash with Property Damage incident in the 600 block of West Wallace Street.

    Upon officers’ arrival and a preliminary investigation, a 2011 Ford F250 was traveling westbound on West Wallace Street at a high rate of speed. In an effort to avoid a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox, the driver of the truck swerved to the right but struck the Equinox on the passenger side rear quarter panel. The driver of the truck then over corrected and drove across both lanes of traffic and struck Randy’s Barber Shop. The building was extensively damaged as a result of the traffic crash.

    Both drivers sustained nonlife threatening injuries and were treated on scene but refused transport to an area hospital.

    The driver of the 2011 Ford F250, a 22-year-old female, was cited for Failure to Control Speed.

    “We are still investigating the cause of the accident, but we can confirm that neither of the drivers were serious injured and no one was inside the building at the time of the crash. The building has sustained significant structural damage and we have cordoned off the area for safety reasons. We would like to urge the public to avoid this location until further notice. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.” San Saba Police Chief John Bauer.

    This investigation, by the San Saba Police Department, remains on-going.
