Down Memory Lane

60 Years Ago January 20, 1966

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wood and children of Richland Springs came for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Wood, and to show them the new car they had just purchased. Unfortunately, the Woods were not home.

Jesse Collins is doing about as usual. His son, Robert and wife, were present to celebrate Mr. Collins’ 93rd birthday, along with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Howell, Mrs. Collins and his faithful nurse, Mrs. Charlie Miller.

Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Boone spent a night with her mother, Mrs. Davis of Stephenville. They brought back some lumber to be used for some improvements on their farm.

Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Millican moved to Sulphur Springs Camp on the Colorado river where they will take the place of Mr. and Mrs. W. Landers who have had charge of the camp the past few years. The Landers have returned to their home in Lampasas county.

Kay Perry was honored with a birthday party with all the trimmings by her mother, Mrs. Chas. Perry. Those helping her celebrate were Paula Sue Phillips and Vicki Hamrick of San Saba, Tammy, Chris and Patti Boultinghouse, Patsy and Nancy Jane McKneely, Debbie and Sharon Perry.

40 Years Ago January 23, 1986

E. W. and Kathrine Bond went to San Antonio to see E. W.’s doctor. The doctor put a cast on his arm and told him he had Olecrenan Bersitus. E. W. said at least it had a fancy name.

The Cherokee Home had special guests for a week, Mr. Bob Davidson and 20 A&M college students. They did all sorts of jobs around the cottages and helped the children with their studies. The Home is fortunate having these students lending a helping hand. Everyone enjoyed their visit.

H&R Block Company has opened a new office in San Saba. Manager and franchise owner of the San Saba office is Mrs. Tawana Riggs who has several years of income tax experience as a tax preparer in the San Saba area.

The San Saba boys varsity basketball team defeated Menard during district play by a score of 58-50 and moved into the number 2 slot in district.

Groundbreaking was held Jan. 15 at the San Saba Golf Course for an additional 9 holes, to make the course a full 18 holes. Approximately 35 members and county and city dignitaries gathered for the occasion. Those breaking ground with shovels were Joe Ragsdale, San Saba Mayor; Sorrell Smith, course designer and county resident; and Jackie Shahan, San Saba Golf Association president.
