Mrs. Sue Bettie Davenport, Dave and Dick Davenport have returned from visiting her brother, Warren Gray in La Mesa, New Mexico. They also visited other relatives in Las Cruces, New Mexico and El Paso.

Crappie fishing can be great fun. But, you will catch more of the tasty critters by following this advice: Don't jerk your line too hard when a crappie strikes. If you do you may tear its soft lips and lose your fish. Furthermore, once the fish is on, handle your line gently, but firmly.

Army Pvt. Danny A. Nicks, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond A. Nicks, completed a wire course at Fort Jackson, S. C., July 29. During the eightweek course, Private Nicks was trained to maintain and operate field telephones and switchboards. He also received instruction in telephone wire installation and map reading.

Those tin foil plates that TV dinners come in make perfect eating utensils for camp. Once you use them at the campground, you can discard them or save for another trip.

Bill Brown, high school teacher and basketball coach, has resigned from the faculty of San Saba High School, according to Supt. J. C. Petty.

Underhand casting is of little use to the average angler. It is more of an exhibition stunt. Better concentrate on the usual styles.

Mr. and Mrs. Askey and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Behrens returned last week following a vacation tour through Santa Fe, N. Mex., Pagosa Springs and Durango, Colo., also other points of interest in southern Colorado. Enroute home they visited in Albuquerque, N. Mex.

San Saba's Little League All-Stars won third place in the 5th annual San Saba Little League All-Star Tournament. Members of the team are Henry Harrison, Rodney Vogel, Richard Jackson, Ronald Wood, Mike Ray, Keith Sterner, Jesse Childers, Ricky Hyatt, Randy Holland, Wayland Moore, Billy Smith, Dan Benson, Norris McCarty, manager, Ben H. Roy and bat boys, Rusty Hardy, John Clay Smith.

There was one baby born at San Saba Memorial Hospital during the week of July 26 to Aug. 2. Mr. and Mrs. Sylvestre Barco are the parents of Jesus

44 Years Ago August 5, 1976 Raguel, seven pounds, four ounces, born July 30.

H. L. Hubbard, Kenneth McHorse and William Ray Harvell, volunteer firemen on the San Saba Volunteer Fire Department of San Saba, attended the 47th Annual Texas Firemen's Training School July 25-30. The school, attended by nearly 1,550 students representing about 600 cities from approximately 30 states, was held on the Texas A&M University campus.

Billy Hardy, President of the San Saba Golf Association presented Sorrell Smith with a plaque commemorating his contribution in the construction of the San Saba Municipal Golf Course which now ranks among the best 9-hole courses in the state. The San Saba course is in its fourth year of operation.

Six more student nurses from San Saba Memorial Hospital, Donna Behrens, Ponice Meadders, Nita Bessent, Mary Lou Cisneroz, Sammie Gomez, and Mrs. Mary Frank will graduate Friday, August 6. Their instructor was Mrs. Nancy Rawls, RN.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack H. Sanderson have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Kathryn Gay, to John (Red) Zulauf Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John Zulauf of Cherokee.
