Big Valley School closed last week, and Miss Winnie Brown, who has been one of the teachers is at home for her vacation, and has accepted the school for next term.
Mr. and Mrs. Doiron went to Carlton several months ago, but like all others who leave San Saba, they came back to be with their old friends and live in the best town in Texas.
The local Odd Fellows Lodge celebrated the 109th anniversary of the Order at their Hall, April 26th, and the members of the Rebekah Lodge were invited guests. A song by Miss Thelma House and Lucile Hendrick, and instrumental music by Mrs. Dama Halden and Miss Clementine Hendrick followed the ceremony, ice cream and cake were served and a large crowd of members and visitors enjoyed games of "forty-two".
Tom Swails was the hero of the hour Wednesday morning when he brought in a big yellow catfish tipping the scales at 42 pounds. He caught the fish near Red Bluff bridge on the Colorado river. Much interest in being shown in angling at this time of the year, and every catch stimulates the energy of the fishermen.
The following schools of this county have closed their terms: Salt Branch, Henry, Pecan Grove, Algerita, Bend, Post Oak Grove, Live Oak, Bowser, Fairview, Shaw Bend, Wallace, Latham, Colony, McMillin, Spring Creek.
Steve Ballew is now located in the building vacated by Mac's Cafe. He was formerly in the warehouse back of the Bodkin & Little Store. He is making improvements in the shop and will have an up-to-date plumbing and tinshop when completed.
At a meeting of the new school board last Tuesday night the following officers were elected: President, B. T. Rich; Vice-President, A. E. Petty; Secretary, E. L. Brown. Mrs. Gene E. Cameron was elected to teach the Summer School.
According to County Superintendent, E. E. Pierce the following teachers have been selected to serve the schools as follows: Pecan Grove: Misses Nova and Velda Smith. Bowser: Raymond Ballard, Principal; C R. Smith and Miss Eula Taylor. Hall: Misses Zloa Perry and Ollie Mae Gaddy. McMillin: Mrs. Belle O'Neal and Miss Loraine Duey re-elected.

Arch Clements, long time oil consignee here, and who has recently opened a real estate business in the Saller building, on the northwest corner of the plaza, has added an insurance department to the business. The offices have been completely overhauled with Venetian blinds and other new equipment.
Mr. and Mrs. Steve Ragsdale of Hamilton spend Sunday here among relatives.
Improvements to be made at one of the oldest cemeteries in this county during the next few weeks, when the Farr cemetery about two and a half miles east of town will be re-fenced, graves and grounds worked over and some new monuments to be placed there, it was stated this week by Mrs. Elmer Paris of Rough Creek, who is the former Lillian Farr.

Wednesday, April 9, the one act players added more points to the staggering total amassed by San Saba this year in District 8A of the Interscholastic League. This group's play, "They're None of Them Perfect" won second. Mason won first; Llano third and Fredericksburg, fourth. The girls in this play were Wanda Jewel Scott, Juna Gray, Nettie Oma Ragsdale, Linnie Faye Daniel, Anne Holladay, and Cornie Miffleton. Miss Mary Frances Johnson is the coach. Cornie Miffleton won recognition as the girl rendering the best performance.
Clark Inglish who spent his boyhood day here in San Saba, was here from Dallas Wednesday where he makes his headquarters. He is with the John Deere Plow Company.

The carpenter and masonry work on the new Presbyterian manse is almost completed. Paper hanging and painting are still to be done. The new home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ellis is now completed. This house is of Austin White lime, and stands on what Ellis' call the Denison tract; it is about one half mile from Charlie Starts.
