March 15, 1928

Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Creamer announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Beulah Amony, to Mr. Thomas H. Card. The marriage will take place in San Saba some time in May.

Roy and Jim Ragsdale have purchased the battery station from Ray Wilder, and have installed the business in the Ragsdale Garage where they will continue to do battery recharging. Mr. Wilder had the station in the rear of the Sudden Service Station.

B. D. Harkey Jr. and Benton Miller broadcasted from Houston with the violin and guitar one day last week. San Saba has much local talent and it is a joy to be able to entertain the whole world.

Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Morris have let the contract for a modern 6-room bungalow of English architecture. The building is right west of the main school building and will be one of the nicest residence in that part of the city.

Miss Lillian McCoury and Mr. Mack Yates were married here last Friday night. These young people are among our most popular of the Rough Creek community and will make their home there for the present, where the groom is ranching.

With every purchase of five gallons of gasoline this Saturday we are going to give free a can of Cold Patch.––Kirk's Filling Station.

NOTICE––All male persons between the age of 21 and 45 years living within the City Limits of San Saba are subject to street tax of $5.00 or five days work. The payment of $3.00 on or before March 10th, will entitle you to a receipt in full for the year. See Jno. H. Moore City Secretary and get your receipt. L. C. Ward, Mayor.

Clyde Estep and Ab Walters played the champion game of Golf last Monday evening. Ab had on his Golf togs with all the varigated colors of the rainbow, Clyde had on his every day work clothes. When dark came they had not "make a hole" and had lost nine perfectly good golf balls.

March 17, 1988

Armando Contreras, a 17- year old Junior as San Saba High School won a 1st place trophy in the Beginner Junior Men's Sparring Competition at the All Open Karate Classic Tournament in Killeen. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Contreras, Armando takes Karate classes at Lampasas.

Cherokee Children's Home has undertaken a project to collect 975,000 Campbell Product labels to be used for purchase of a 15 passenger Dodge Ram B350 Maxi-Wagon to be used for transporting young residents at the Home.

Students in the fourth grade at San Saba Elementary School have received the gift-book entitled "Feeling Good About Me". These beautiful books, made to last are handsomely bound books of stories about learning traditional values and self esteem.

Ollene Thornton, manager of Central Texas Telephone Cooperative, Inc., presented Durward Solsbery with a gold watch and plaque in recognition of his twenty-nine years of dedication to Central Texas Telephone Cooperative, Inc., 1959-1988. Mr. Solsbery retired following 29 years of service with the company.

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry W. Johnson of San Saba have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Jeri Ann to Ray W. Willoughby, III, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray W. Willoughby, Jr. of San Angelo. The bride-elect is a 1979 graduate of San Saba.

HEART HELPER RECIPE Party Bits––

Mix together well:

1 cup Puritan Oil

1 envelope Reduced Calorie Ranch Dressing

1/8 tsp. garlic powder

1 tsp. lemon pepper by Accent

Put 2-12oz. packages small oyster crackers in large paper bag and slowly pour above mixture over crackers. Shake well. Let stand in bag 2 hrs. then store in tightly covered containers.

Approximately 125 members of Primera Iglesia Bautista Calvario were in attendance last Sunday as the recently organized church unveiled a new sign, replacing the sign that once recognized it as a Mission. The Mission had its beginning in the First Baptist Church basement in 1938 and became an organized Church May 31, 1987. Special services were conducted by a group from Dallas including Mike Ynostrosa, a former San Saba resident whose parents were among the churches founders and Bro. Diaz and friend who presented gospel music as entertainment. Rev. Santos Arredondo spoke to the group prior to the unveiling.
